RE: *Member* Shane's Impreza Turbo 2000AWD Sorting pics out
Been down after work today and spoke to Jase and he's explained exactly whats gone off and what my options are. Basically all I need is a new transfer box and a selector fork to fix it, but no one wants to sell the transfer box on its own, usually you have to buy the whole box. Nows where it gets more complicated, Subaru didn't install the same ratios of diffs and transfer boxes to all Imprezas. Depending on the model and the year they vary somewhat. With mine being a UK car then its a little easier as they all had a 3.9:1 front diff and a 3.54:1 rear R160 rear diff with a 1.1:1 transfer box. So all I need is a second had UK box to get the transfer box off. If I was struggling to get a UK box I could get an Import, but then the transfer box would be 1:1 so I would need a 3.9 rear diff to match (with me so far)? While we were talking we were stood under an STi Type R and so I asked if that was a plated diff on the type R as apposed to a viscous one, he confirmed it was and that it's also an R180. So if I found an R180 plated diff then it would have to be off a non Type R car as the ratio on the Type R was 4.4. The reason I want this diff is because its bigger and stronger than a R160 and also it has thicker drivshafts to match so I would need those as well. He then said that all that was coming off the Type R as full '07 6 speed running gear was going on. This is when I asked what he was doing with the old stuff. Its up for sale, so I asked if my PPG kit could be put in and yes it can as they are both TY754 gearboxes. So its all getting priced up at the min but looks like I'm going for full STi Type R running gear including DCCD with my PPG gears installed. The Type R has a close ratio box so Area52 are gonna get back to me with the ratio's with my PPG installed in there instead and what it would be like to drive. I'm thinking it will be good as I'll loose some top end speed, gain acceleration, but shouldn't be as short as a standard Type R box. I'm mainly excited about the DCCD.

Type R gearbox would be best , it'll be amazing for 1/4 mile times. Even on track it's not very you'd get a top speed before a corner comes up.
and dccd is good choice but many have come a croper playing with it when they don't know what it does! When's the Roof hatch going in |

Wish I had the money to buy a Type R and just swap what I want in, should have bought an STi to begin with really, would have saved loads of money. From now on whenever I buy a car I'm doing my homework on them first. Bodywork looks like its on hold till next year now anyway as I'm seriously skint.

I've got loads of bits to sell which might raise £500-£1000, but I've moved recently and half of it is buried in my dads garage and the other half is still in boxes where I am now. Need to get cracking and sort everything out and sell all my crap. Then I might have room in the garage for the 5 and can get working on it. |

Type R running gear and rear brakes are definatly going on along with anti lift kit, under chassis H-brace, my silicon turbo hose and Owen developements turbo jacket while its there as I havent got the time to fit them and so far any bolts under the car I have tried to remove have either sheared or rounded off. Bodywork is whats really letting the car down now so need to get that sorted as long as the engine and turbo hold out.

Brake master cylinder stopper kit, B&M short shift kit and a new gear knob all going on now as well. Went down just over a week ago and there were problems with swapping the bigger shafts over as the ABS rings on my car dont fit on the Type R hubs and Type R's don't have ABS. So they were waiting on some forester parts to see if they could get it all to fit with my hubs and work properly. Some brackets were also needed for the brake calipers to fit. I told them to ditch the ABS all together and just fit all the Type R parts. This will save me some cash and get the job done quicker. I don't want ABS anyway as the car is going more and more towards a track car. I'm gonna go back down on monday and see where they are with it, they've had it ages now and said they don't need to wait for parts anymore and they now have everything they need to finish it, so I expect it won't be long. Then I need to get it on track.
