Think its called a "floating" speaker system and you don't see it in modern cars. As for connecting it to your amp your gonna need a high to low level converter as your stereo outputs an amplified signal to the speakers, this needs converting to a low level signal to be input to your amp. Converters are available on eBay nice and cheap here. Not sure what the system will sound like though quality wise. It should work if you connect your one wire to the + input on the converter and attach the - to the chassis. That is if your cars chassis is connected to the negative terminal on the battery. Some older cars were the other way round with the positive being the common using the car to supply the power with individual earths going back to the negative on the battery. Similar to PNP or NPN in electrical systems, negative or positive switching. Also if theres only one wire then you only have a mono signal so will need to bridge the connections on the input side of the converter, + to + and - to -. That will give you two signals coming out, although they will be the same. |
