Something that requires little maintainance so civic, corolla, another yaris maybe?
Maybe a diesel? Something you won't be tempted to mess with

For me it would be a 1.0 Nissan micra ! Bomb proof cars with small skinny tyres for the snow economical cheap tax and insurance and would only cost £300-500 to buy and if you crash it in bad weather it doesn't really matter !

Slash out and get a Micra 1.3 Super S if you want to spend your cash
